(Some Of) What I Love About You

Every once in a while when I tuck my kids into bed, I spend a few moments whispering in their ears all the things I love about them.  I never finish the list, of course.  There’s too much ground to cover.  So I just tell them what comes to mind.  I have a hunch that at least it helps them sleep better.

If you’re willing to indulge me, let me tell you some of the reasons why I love Faith Presbyterian Church.  I can’t say everything there is to say, but here’s a few of things that come to mind today.

I love how this church holds its young people in such high regard.  Our Advent service this past week was designed to be very inclusive of our teenagers.   Everyone I talked to thought it was wonderful to see them there with us.

I love how generous this church is.  In my 2+ years here, every single time a need is expressed somebody in the church has met that need.

I love how the people of this church genuinely enjoy being with one another.  I’ve been in churches where that wasn’t the case.  Believe me, this is better!

I love our sanctuary.  If you had a hand in designing and building that structure, thank you.  It is an inspiration to me and many others every single week.  (I particularly love the way it gets decorated at Christmas.)

I love the work that our deacons do.  I sat in on their meeting this week and was reminded of the care and compassion they offer to so many behind the scenes.

I love working alongside our current staff and elders.  God has put some remarkable people into leadership here at Faith at this time and I am humbled to partner with them.

I love our Sunday school teachers.  I snuck out of worship this week to sit in on Sunday school classes.  God is loving and teaching our kids through these teachers.  I love it!

I love the musical talent with which God has blessed many in our church.  And I love that so many are willing to share that talent for God’s glory and our inspiration.

I love my Life Group.  If I was in your Life Group, I’m sure I’d love it as well.

I love hearing guests to our church tell me how they experienced genuine hospitality the moment they came in the door.  By the way, I hear this all the time.

I love the commitment here to serving the poor.  I love seeing that commitment grow.

I love the way this church rallies around people who are hurting or in trouble.

I love how every single week I get to experience the presence and love of Jesus Christ in and through you, the people of this community of Faith.

I could go on, and on, and on.  I really could.  (In issues to come, I probably will.)  For now, know that it is a great joy and privilege to be called to serve you as one of your pastors.   It really is.

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday!

Grace & Peace,

P.S. – Would you look for somebody in your life who you can invite to worship this Christmas Season?  It could make all the difference.  (By the way, I love that some of you will take me up on this!)

The Faith Bus is Running

The Faith Shuttle Bus is now operating on a regular Sunday Schedule.

Several people are being picked up at the assisted living facility on Greenhaven Drive. The response has been most favorable since the folks at the Greenhaven could not otherwise attend church and meet with their old friends. Shown here is Bill Miles being unloaded in his motorized wheelchair on November 26.

Advent Dinner and Worship

A record crowd came to the first Advent Dinner on December 6 and really enjoyed eating and socializing.

After dinner, the group went to the sanctuary for worship, including a fine Power Point presentation by Patrick Quinn. Come celebrate the season at the 6:00pm Advent Dinner and 7:00pm Worship on December 13, and the Advent Dinner with caroling on December 20.

Dear ARCOfaithfuls,

The Kings are establishing their home court dominance early in the season, and the ARCOfaithfuls are back at full strength and full speed after only our second game.  While everyone thought things were kind of slow, we actually did quite well, earning $1142, including $41 from our appreciative and generous Kings fans customers.  The ARCOfaithfuls welcomed Steve Rock to their ranks.  Steve was a quick study runner and seemed to have a good time.  He's even thinking about coming back this Sunday!!!  Betty Keller and Audrey Liu counted and controlled the inventory and we had no inventory shortages. Good job everyone!!!  Pat Tatro handled the cash (all $18,428.50 of it!!) with his usual accuracy and efficiency.  Pat, Kitty Tatro, Betty Keller, Audrey Liu, Lyman Lum, and Ken Pisor came an hour early and helped get everything ready to go.  Gary Cash with start-up help from Caryn Davis did a great job working the condiment stations and Patrick Vaughn was our REALLY WAY COOL ICE GUY!!!!!!!     Thanks to Cindy Canaday for starting the carpools, and training and managing the runners.  We had some last minute sign-ups that really made things work well.  Who says prayers aren't answered!!  Special thanks to Lyman Lum and Audrey Liu, who don't attend Faith, but unselfishly gave their time and talents to support your Youth Ministry.  I have 19 sign-ups for this coming Sunday, and I am looking for 12 to 15 more volunteers.  If you have already signed up, thanks a bunch.  If you can volunteer this coming Sunday, please do.  We would love to see you at ARCO (need to arrive at 4 p.m., carpools will leave the Church at 3:30 p.m.)  If  you can help, please call me  (392-0304) or e-mail me, and we can arrange to get you a parking pass.  Hope to see you Sunday at Church and then at ARCO.
